Coaching & Volunteer Opportunities

Rock Soccer is a not for profit 501(c)3 organization and relies on the support of our volunteers and community. We encourage everyone to get involved whether it is cheering on the sidelines, helping out an hour or so, or being a team manager. Below are some opportunities to get involved. Like most soccer clubs in the United States, Rock SC Rush extensively relies on volunteers for the organization to provide the best soccer experience that we can for our members.

Each year it is increasingly more difficult to get the help and commitment that is needed to help the club sustain its current numbers as well as growing to help sustain club development..

Some examples of this problem include:

  • Struggling to fill coaching positions at all levels, especially our In-House program that relies almost exclusively on parent coaches. We are not alone in this problem as many similar sized clubs in this area are experiencing the same problem.
  • The issue filling all spots for our Clash Tournament, typically resulting in many families taking on more than they should have to as well as leaving many open slots unfilled. The Clash is the largest and main fundraiser for the Club without it success cost increases would surely need to be passed on to our members.
  • Lack of alternate fundraising to the Clash Tournament.

The bottom line is that approximately 10-12 volunteers take on the vast majority of the club's work to keep it running. We have nearly 400 members in the club and we are growing making this task even more difficult. The result of this complicates everything from communication at all levels, having registration ready on time, getting teams built for each season, and the end result is not as positive of an experience that we strive to give all of our members.

As a result of this, Rock SC Rush has Volunteer Requirements for every member. Each family is responsible for four hours over the course of one season. We don’t expect a family with three kids to give the club 12 hours, just the four.  A season is defined ast Fall through Spring.Families at the In-House level up through High School are responsible for these hours.

During registration a family is allowed to OPT OUT of volunteering at a cost of $100. This money will go towards equipment, financial aid, anything to help the club but we don’t want the extra money.

For the high school aged players the expectation is two hours of time since you are only playing ½ seasons. The club will also sign the player forms to help them fulfill volunteer hours that are needed for college applications.

To be clear, we would much rather see more volunteers than to collect additional money from families.

People who serve in the following positions are exempt from volunteer requirements:

  • Board member (voting or non-voting position)
  • Rock SC Rush Clash tournament director/committee member
  • Parent coaches, In-House through High School
  • Team managers if a coach so chooses to have a manager
  • Field Maintenance Personnel

Beyond those positions, here are some ways volunteer hours can be completed:

Additionally, we are flexible on what can be considered volunteer time — families are welcome to approach the Board with proposals for topics/projects that they feel would benefit the club.

  • Rock SC Rush Clash
  • Coaching
  • Team Manager
  • Fundraising Opportunities
  • Field flag crew (make sure all fields have corner flags on game days, return them to the sheds after final games of the day)
  • Goal net take down crew (November)
  • Goal net set-up crew (March/April)
  • Food Drive (usually one in fall, one in spring)
  • Equipment Trade-In (summer)
